In my other hospital, signs are posted everywhere regarding disaster plans, even in the staff bathroom. Some 16 pages of detailed plan of action are posted on the wall as part of the toilet training. Seriously, who has the time to sit on the potty that long? Gees,we can't even take a pee break without being forced to read in service papers posted right in front of our face. There are sign up sheets, too, to confirm we have read them and went through the toilet training. The males can't get away either. Duplicate stuff are posted at the back wall behind the john.
I am getting a bit nervous though. Denver planners have supposedly planned well for any disaster based on past protests by demonstrators. I'm only hoping that all these preparations will help protect everybody from whatever might occur during the convention week. I am concerned about protesters blocking the roads, setting fires, attempting to jam traffic to prevent delegates (and hospital staff and patients and everybody) from getting where they need to go. I work by downtown. I am afraid I won't be able to go home safely to my family. Will I have to sleep in the hospital? Will we have patient overload? The hospital where I will be working plans to over staff but what if we'll be forced to take so many patients because of a big disaster? If I don't write in this blog for days, you can only guess what happened to me. Wish me good luck, please? Picture credit.
