Goodbye

She finally said goodbye, though not vocally. Now she can rest--a well-deserved rest she missed for almost a month. Sad it wasn’t a comfortable goodbye. With tubes through almost all the orifice of her body, her very body gave up . . . in ICU bed.

Sorrow and happiness, at the same time, fill my heart. For some reasons I find both feelings hard to explain.

One of the reasons I left ICU. I never could figure out which emotion was more valid. I finally decided on happiness, and decided I was too burned out to stay. Thanks for a thoughtful post.

I've worked a few days in ICU. Of course, I took care of less sick patients. But looking around, helping the ICU nurses, I decided ICU nursing does not match with what I want, at least not yet. I'm not ready for it.
